HotelJob’s survey asked, “Why are young people leaving the hospitality sector?” Low wages ranked first among the responses. Although the data showed that 79.5 percent of hotels in the country had adjusted salaries or improved employee benefits over the past 12 months, the sector continued to experience staff losses. Among respondents, 54.8 percent cited income levels or career changes as the main reasons for leaving their jobs.
The company described the situation as a paradox that hotel managers need to address. According to the survey results, salary adjustments have not been sufficient to ensure employee retention.
Stable Income A Priority For Young People
The company noted that 50 percent of respondents prioritized a stable income, meaning a clearly defined base salary or share of service charges. At the same time, recruitment processes in the sector continue to commonly use terms such as “negotiable salary” or “attractive income” without specifying the components of the salary.
HotelJob emphasized that if businesses address employee retention solely from a financial perspective, they will overlook half of the issue.
