As part of the collaboration, the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) and the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) will work to adapt the Sustainable Development Performance Indicators developed by UNRISD for the business events sector. The indicators provide a framework for measuring performance in areas such as sustainability, social development and inequality.
The initiative aims to enable the sustainability performance of congresses, meetings and other business events to be assessed through a more comprehensive and standardized approach.
The framework is expected to help ICCA members measure their progress in sustainability, access more comprehensive data for decision-making processes and demonstrate their sustainability performance to clients, business partners, governments and local communities through tangible data.
ICCA stated that the collaboration represents an important step toward using a UN-based approach to assess sustainability in the business events sector.
