Hong Kong secures Vinexpo Asia through 2031

Hong Kong has secured the exclusive hosting rights for Vinexpo Asia from 2027 through 2031 under a five-year strategic partnership between the Hong Kong Tourism Board and Vinexposium. The agreement gives the city a recurring international B2B event rather than a single convention win, strengthening Hong Kong’s effort to build a calendar of major exhibitions capable of generating repeat business travel and visitor spending. The first edition under the partnership will take place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from June 8 to 10, 2027. The deal also changes the event’s recent regional model. Vinexposium had previously positioned Hong Kong and Singapore on alternating years, with the Hong Kong edition primarily targeting Greater China and the Singapore edition focusing more heavily on Southeast Asia. Under the new agreement, Hong Kong becomes the exclusive annual host for five straight years.

That continuity is particularly significant in the international exhibition market, where destinations compete not only for individual events but increasingly for multi-year relationships with organisers. A recurring exhibition provides greater visibility for convention centres, hotels, airlines and local suppliers, while allowing organisers and exhibitors to plan participation over a longer period. Vinexposium Overseas Events Director Deborah Sanchez said the industry currently needs “stability, clarity and long-term visibility,” positioning the agreement as a platform for exhibitors and buyers to plan and invest ahead.

Vinexpo Asia also arrives with an established international audience. The 2024 Hong Kong edition attracted 1,032 exhibitors from 35 countries and 14,203 professional visitors from 60 countries, while generating more than 4,200 business meetings. Around 75% of visitors were importers, distributors or retail buyers, giving the exhibition a profile closely tied to commercial decision-making rather than general consumer attendance.

From Rotating Exhibition To Annual Hong Kong Anchor

The five-year agreement represents a broader shift in how Hong Kong can use major trade exhibitions within its MICE portfolio. Instead of competing repeatedly for individual editions, the city now has a confirmed annual event around which hotels, venues, transportation providers and tourism businesses can plan across several years.

For organisers, the model also reduces uncertainty around destination planning. Returning to the same city allows supplier networks, operational systems and local partnerships to be developed over successive editions rather than rebuilt each year. Exhibitors and international buyers can also integrate Hong Kong into their annual business calendars with greater certainty, particularly when participation involves long-haul travel, freight, accommodation and multiple meetings.

Hong Kong’s role is particularly relevant because Vinexpo Asia was created in the city in 1998. The event has since developed into one of Vinexposium’s principal platforms in Asia-Pacific, connecting producers with importers, distributors, retailers and hospitality buyers. Bringing it back annually therefore combines an established event-market relationship with a more predictable hosting structure.

Hong Kong Wants The Event To Move Beyond The Exhibition Hall

The partnership is not limited to securing the exhibition floor at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Hong Kong Tourism Board has said that Vinexpo Asia will be developed into a city-wide event, expanding its presence beyond the convention venue.

That approach matters for the economics of major business events. International exhibitions generate value not only through venue rental and exhibition services but through hotel stays, restaurants, transportation, retail and business entertainment. Extending programming into the city creates more opportunities for visitor spending to reach businesses outside the convention centre and can lengthen the commercial footprint of an event.

It also allows Hong Kong to connect the exhibition more closely with its wider hospitality and culinary sectors. Vinexpo Asia brings together buyers and suppliers from the wine, spirits and broader beverage industries, making restaurants, hotels and hospitality venues natural extensions of the event environment. For a destination competing for high-value international business travellers, converting an exhibition into a broader city experience can strengthen both delegate engagement and the event’s economic impact.

Multi-Year Events Are Becoming A Destination Asset

The agreement also illustrates why recurring international events are becoming increasingly valuable within destination strategies. Winning one large exhibition can create a short-term spike in room nights and business activity, but a multi-year commitment creates a more predictable demand cycle. Hotels can anticipate compression periods, suppliers can invest in servicing the event and convention bureaux gain a confirmed international event around which other business can be developed.

For Hong Kong, the timing is important as Asian destinations continue competing aggressively for international exhibitions and corporate events. Singapore, Bangkok, Seoul and other regional hubs have expanded their venue capacity, incentive programmes and international event portfolios, making organiser retention increasingly important alongside new-event acquisition.

The Vinexpo agreement therefore creates a different type of competitive advantage. Rather than relying solely on infrastructure or financial incentives, Hong Kong is securing continuity with an organiser whose event already has a substantial international buyer base and a long history in the city.

The next question will be how far Hong Kong can extend that model to other international exhibitions. If recurring agreements become a larger part of its MICE strategy, the city’s convention calendar could become less dependent on one-off wins and more heavily built around long-term organiser partnerships. For venues, hotels and the wider visitor economy, that would turn event acquisition from an annual bidding exercise into a more predictable source of international business.
