According to a statement from the ministry, the event began on September 7 with the participation of 520 representatives from 30 countries and will conclude on September 9, 2026. Mexico’s Tourism Minister Josefina Rodríguez Zamora officially opened the event.
Minister Zamora noted that one in every 10 international travelers visiting Mexico comes for a sporting event or competition, highlighting sports tourism as an opportunity to diversify tourism activities and generate visitor, investment and economic benefits for different destinations across the country. Emphasizing that sports tourism accounts for 10 percent of tourist spending in Mexico, Zamora said the country will conclude the year with 295 sporting events held across all 32 states, generating more than 60,000 overnight stays.
