At the UNESCO World Heritage Committee meeting held in Busan, South Korea, on July 26, France’s Normandy coast and the Royal Capetian Fortresses of Languedoc were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The Normandy coast was the site of one of the world’s largest military landings on June 6, 1944. Following the landing, Nazi Germany was defeated by the Allied forces.
The Royal Capetian Fortresses of Languedoc, meanwhile, consist of structures built in the 13th and 14th centuries that showcase the characteristics of defensive architecture of the period.
