Couples in India blend tradition with modernity

The report was prepared based on more than 2,000 couples and over 500 wedding planning professionals. According to the report, 76 percent of couples met through work, school or friendship, while 24 percent met through social media platforms and dating apps. Some 28.74 percent of couples live together before getting married. The report emphasized that this rate indicates that couples are blending tradition with modernity.

How Do Couples Spend Their Money?

The report also compiled couples’ spending during the wedding planning and implementation stages. Couples cover 78.65 percent of their wedding expenses with their savings. They finance 8.85 percent through bank loans, 6.25 percent through loans from friends and relatives, and 6.25 percent by converting their assets into cash.

It was noted that expenses financed through borrowing are largely made for venue selection, jewelry, decoration, and food and beverage services.

In addition, 62 percent of payments are made in cash, while 38 percent are made digitally.
